Finance Manager - Operations & FP&A
National City (San Diego) | Onsite, 5 days per week | Direct Hire
$125,000 - $145,000 base + 10% annual target incentive
Ledgent Finance & Accounting is hiring a Finance Manager for an established maritime transportation and automotive logistics company at their National City marine terminal. This is the finance seat over one of their operating divisions - a fast, tangible, metrics-driven environment with ships, vehicles, rail and high-volume auto flows.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Division budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis - hands-on ownership, not reviewing someone else's model
- Client and service-level pricing, profitability and margin analysis, including identifying margin leakage
- ROI, scenario and sensitivity modeling on real operating decisions
- Partnering directly with terminal and site operations leadership as a strategic thought partner
- Oversight of a site-based team covering billing, collections, AP and invoice coding (2 direct reports)
- Building out BI, dashboards and automated recurring reporting
- Presenting to the CEO, CFO and senior leadership
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
- 5+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, modeling, budgeting and forecasting
- Prior supervisory or people-leadership experience
- Operations-facing finance experience - partnering with site, terminal, plant or operations leadership
- Pricing, profitability, ROI, scenario and/or sensitivity analysis experience
- Working knowledge of billing, accounting, collections, AP, payroll and cash management at an oversight level
- Strong Excel, quantitative analysis, KPI/metrics and multi-system reporting skills
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills
- Willing and able to work onsite five days per week at the National City marine terminal
NICE TO HAVE
- Finance Manager, Division Controller or Plant Controller experience supporting a terminal, plant, construction operation, logistics business or other tangible operating site
- Manufacturing, construction, transportation, logistics, heavy-industry or multi-site operations background
- Client and service-level pricing and profitability analysis
- Experience implementing or supporting BI, EPM, dashboard or reporting tools and automating recurring reporting
- Comfort learning home-grown or proprietary operating systems; interest in automotive or large-scale logistics
WHY IT IS WORTH A LOOK
- High-visibility role with regular exposure to the CEO/owner, CFO and senior leadership
- Key finance partner at the headquarters site for a large auto-processing operation
- Career runway into corporate FP&A and other West Coast business lines
- The outgoing incumbent is expected to stay through year-end, so there is a genuine transition runway
- Typical schedule is 8:00-5:00 Monday-Friday, and earlier starts (6:00-3:00 or 7:00-4:00) are supported
- No regular travel
